A shuttle minibus linking the centre of Figueres with the Castell de Sant Ferran carried 907 passengers in its first month. Figueres City Council says the result shows the pilot scheme was well received.
The shuttle was one of several measures the council introduced this summer to promote tourism in the capital of the Alt Empordà. The others were a combined ticket for four cultural sites, a joint day-and-night Dalí offer, and permanent promotional displays in the town centre.
A cheap ride up the hill
The minibus ran from 20 July to 23 August. It linked the Rambla and the Teatre-Museu Dalí with the Castell de Sant Ferran, the fortress above the town, in both directions.
The Mostra del Vi de l'Empordà, the Empordà wine fair in Figueres, will feature 11 wineries this year, three more than in 2025. It is the fair's 40th edition. For the first time it will share a single space with the Fòrum Gastronòmic Ciutat, the town's food forum, on the Rambla from 2 to 4 October.
All participating wineries belong to the DO Empordà, the denominació d'origen (protected designation of origin) that certifies wines from the area. The list is Celler Cooperatiu d'Espolla, La Vinyeta (Mollet de Peralada), Mas Llunes and Masetplana (Garriguella), Espelt Viticultors (Vilajuïga), Pere Guardiola (Capmany), AV Bodeguers (Vilamaniscle), Terra Remota (Sant Climent Sescebes), Empordàlia (Vilajuïga/Pau), Vinyes dels Aspres (Cantallops) and Mas Vida (Cistella).
Castelló d'Empúries town council has replaced eight panels and plaques on Empuriabrava's heritage trail. Most of the signs had faded in the sun, and some had been vandalised.
The work was carried out in recent days by the council's Historic Heritage Department. The signs mark some of the most notable buildings, sculptures and sites in the residential marina.
A trail born from an anniversary
The heritage signage was designed and installed in 2017 and 2018, when Empuriabrava marked fifty years as a residential marina. Its purpose was twofold: to highlight the marina's most distinctive features and to give visitors a route through its historic, cultural and natural heritage.
Castelló d'Empúries will not have to draw up an economic-financial plan, known in Catalan as a Pla Econòmic Financer (PEF), despite missing some budget stability targets in 2025. The town council says the gap came from spending its own savings on projects in the municipality, not from any problem with its finances.
The change follows a new Spanish government rule, Royal Decree-Law 13/2026, which gives councils more room to use their own reserves without triggering extra paperwork.
A problem for well-run councils
Spanish councils must meet a set of fiscal targets. These include budget stability indicators and the so-called spending rule, which limits how fast spending can grow. If a council misses them, it normally has to prepare a PEF explaining how it will get back on track.
Figueres has started fitting number plate recognition cameras at the main roads into the town. The first 30 cameras will cover 14 points and are expected to start operating in November.
The local council (Ajuntament) began installing the equipment this week. The project costs €400,670.80. Its stated aims are to monitor traffic and improve public safety.
The cameras will not go live until the council finishes expanding the data and image processing centre at the headquarters of the Guàrdia Urbana, the town's municipal police force. That control room is where footage and alerts will be viewed and managed.
