This privacy policy explains which personal data is processed when you visit this website, for what purposes, and which rights you have under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

2. Server log files

Every time you access this website, the web server automatically collects the following information, which your browser transmits:

IP address of the requesting device
date and time of the request
requested page or file
referrer URL (the page from which you came)
browser type and version, operating system (user agent)
HTTP status code and amount of data transferred

This data is processed to deliver the website, to ensure its stability and security, and to detect and defend against attacks. The legal basis is Art. 6 (1) (f) GDPR; my legitimate interest lies in the secure and error-free operation of the website. The log files are deleted automatically after 14 days at the latest. The data is not merged with other data sources and is not used to create user profiles.

Visitors who are not logged in do not receive any cookies from this website itself, unless they choose a language with the language selector.

The website is shown in the language of your browser settings (English, German, Spanish or Dutch). If you choose a different language with the language selector below the header image, your choice is stored in a cookie named lang (value: the language code, e.g. de), so that the website is shown in this language on every page. The cookie contains no other data and expires after one year; you can delete it at any time in your browser settings. Storing this choice is strictly necessary for the function you requested (§ 25 (2) no. 2 TDDDG).

When you first visit, a dialog asks you to choose between using the website with advertising (section 4) and an ad-free subscription (section 6). If you accept advertising, your decision and the date are stored in the local storage of your browser under the name empuriabrava_consent, so that the dialog is not shown again on every page. This entry is not transmitted to the server and is deleted automatically after 180 days, after which you will be asked again. Storing your decision is strictly necessary to respect it (§ 25 (2) no. 2 TDDDG).

If you register or log in, a technically necessary session cookie named ChyrpSession is set. It contains a random session identifier, keeps you logged in and protects forms against misuse. It expires after 30 days at the latest or when you log out. Setting this cookie is strictly necessary for the service you requested (§ 25 (2) no. 2 TDDDG).

You can withdraw your consent to advertising at any time via the "Cookie Settings" link at the bottom of every page. You can also delete the entry, and any cookies set by the ad network, in your browser settings.

4. Advertising

This website is financed by advertising. Only if you click "Accept advertising" in the dialog, advertising banners of the ad network Adsterra are displayed on this website. They are loaded in embedded frames from the domains profitableratecpmnetwork.com and highrevenueformat.com. Adsterra is operated by AD MARKET LIMITED, Christaki Kranou 49, Germasogeia, 4041 Limassol, Cyprus (company registration number HE 361574), jointly with ADMEDIA LLC FZ, United Arab Emirates. Further information can be found in the Adsterra privacy policy. If you choose the ad-free subscription instead (section 6), no advertising is loaded and no data is transmitted to the ad network.

If you accept, the ad network receives in particular your IP address, information about your browser and device, the address of the page you are visiting and the time of access. The ad network may set cookies or similar technologies in your browser, recognise your device across websites, and use this information to deliver and measure advertising. The ad network may process data in countries outside the European Union/European Economic Area, in particular in the United Arab Emirates, in which the level of data protection may be lower than in the EU.

If you have accepted advertising, your browser checks a few seconds after loading a page whether the ads could be displayed or were prevented by a content blocker. If they were blocked, a notice is shown at the bottom of the page. The result of this check is not stored and not transmitted to us or to third parties.

In addition, links marked as "Sponsored" are shown at the end of posts. They lead to the ad network and do not load anything by themselves; only when you click such a link does your browser connect to Adsterra, which then receives the data described above.

The legal basis for storing and reading information on your device is your consent pursuant to § 25 (1) TDDDG; the legal basis for the processing of personal data is your consent pursuant to Art. 6 (1) (a) GDPR, and for any transfer to third countries Art. 49 (1) (a) GDPR. You can withdraw your consent at any time with effect for the future via "Cookie Settings"; the lawfulness of processing carried out before the withdrawal remains unaffected. Apart from this advertising and PayPal (section 6), this website does not embed any other third-party services, such as analytics tools, social media plugins or externally loaded fonts.

5. User accounts

To take out the ad-free subscription, you need a user account. When you register, your username, email address and password (stored only as a secure hash) as well as the time of registration are stored; optionally also your name and website. The data is used to provide your account and the subscription and to contact you about your account, for example to reset your password. The legal basis is Art. 6 (1) (b) GDPR. You can ask us at any time to delete your account; the data will then be deleted unless statutory retention obligations apply.

6. Ad-free subscription and payment via PayPal

The ad-free subscription costs €0.99 per month and is paid via PayPal. The payment service provider is PayPal (Europe) S.à r.l. et Cie, S.C.A., 22-24 Boulevard Royal, L-2449 Luxembourg. When you subscribe, you are redirected to PayPal, where you log in and confirm the subscription. PayPal processes your payment data under its own responsibility; see the PayPal privacy statement.

We receive from PayPal the ID of your subscription, its status (for example active or cancelled) and the date of the next payment, and store this information together with your user account in order to switch off advertising for you and to end the subscription when the paid period is over. We do not receive your bank or card details. The legal basis is Art. 6 (1) (b) GDPR (performance of the contract). Subscription and payment data is stored for as long as required by tax and commercial law (usually up to 10 years), otherwise until your account is deleted.

7. Contact by email

If you contact me by email, the data you provide (your email address, name if applicable and the content of your message) will be processed to handle your request. The legal basis is Art. 6 (1) (b) GDPR if your request relates to a contract or pre-contractual measures, and Art. 6 (1) (f) GDPR otherwise; my legitimate interest lies in answering your inquiry. The data will be deleted as soon as it is no longer required and no statutory retention obligations apply.

8. Encryption

This website uses TLS encryption (recognisable by "https://" in the address bar) to protect the transmission of data.

9. Your rights

You have the following rights with respect to your personal data:
