The Museu de l'Empordà in Figueres is opening a new exhibition on the history of comics in the region. "D'Empúries a Spiderman. Narratives gràfiques a la perifèria" (From Empúries to Spiderman. Graphic narratives on the periphery) looks at how comics have been created, read and set in the Empordà, far from the big publishing cities.
The official opening is this Saturday, 3 October, at 11am. Catalonia's culture minister, Sònia Hernández, and the mayor of Figueres, Jordi Masquef, are expected to attend. The show runs until 10 January.
From Capitán Trueno to fanzines
The exhibition is curated by M. Mercè Cuartiella and Joan Manuel Soldevilla. It covers the long tradition of graphic storytelling in the Empordà, from its earliest forms to contemporary comics.
Figueres City Council will carry out a full refurbishment of its municipal swimming pool complex, with a total investment of 720,279 euros spread over this autumn and 2027.
The project covers the covered and outdoor pools. It includes new windows, fresh paint inside and out, a new water filtration system with ultraviolet treatment, better climate control and the renovation of part of the changing rooms.
The work is backed by the Generalitat de Catalunya, the Catalan regional government.
Two-week closure from 26 October
The pool will be emptied and closed to the public from 26 October to 8 November.
Residents of Castelló d'Empúries put forward around 50 ideas to improve the municipality at a public workshop held as part of the town's 2027 Participatory Budget. By the end of the session, the six highest-ranked proposals had been chosen as the first finalists of this year's process.
The workshop took place on Thursday, September 24, in the Capella del Convent de Santa Clara, a former convent chapel in the old town of Castelló. It was one of the key steps in the ninth edition of the scheme, which lets residents decide how to spend part of the council's investment budget.
Castelló d'Empúries will host the 19th edition of the Ruta de l'Art from 9 to 12 October, with more than 100 artists showing their work in 16 venues across the historic town centre.
The art trail turns some of the town's best-known buildings and spaces into temporary exhibition sites for four days. Visitors can walk from one venue to the next, seeing a range of artistic disciplines while also passing some of the most distinctive corners of the old town.
The programme also includes an art market, a children's drawing contest called RutaKids and an installation by the Red Cross.
Figueres will not raise its waste collection tax in 2027. Other municipal taxes and fees will rise, but by less than inflation. The city council presented its draft tax bylaws for next year with the stated aim of easing the burden on households.
Mayor Jordi Masquef and finance councillor Ramon Pastoret presented the proposal in the council's plenary hall. The ordinances (the local bylaws that set municipal taxes, fees and public prices each year) were due to go before the ordinary council meeting on Thursday afternoon.
The headline figures are simple. Spain's National Statistics Institute (INE) put the consumer price index (CPI) at 4.9% in September. Figueres will raise its fees by 3%. Property tax, known as IBI, will go up by 2%, almost three points below inflation.
