Castelló Agenda Formativa adds new autumn workshops
Castelló d'Empúries has launched the September to December 2026 edition of its Agenda Formativa, the municipal programme of courses and workshops open to local residents. This edition adds a number of new activities to the existing offer.
The Agenda Formativa, which translates roughly as "training agenda", is organised by the town council. It covers learning, culture, leisure and social activities, and is aimed at people of different ages and interests. The new programme is now under way, and registration is open.
What is new this term
The council has named several activities that join the programme for the first time this autumn. They cover a wide range of subjects.
Two of the new workshops are about food. "Coca de forn" focuses on the oven-baked coca, a flat pastry or bread that is a staple of Catalan bakeries. "Cuinem amb flors silvestres", or "Let's cook with wild flowers", looks at using wild flowers in the kitchen.
Families with very young children can join a workshop on how to tell stories to children aged between 18 and 48 months. It adds to the existing options for parents and young readers in the town, which also include the cinema and story hour sessions that are back this autumn.
There is also a theatre piece. "Una biografia teatralitzada: A casa na Clementina Arderiu. Cadaqués 1959" is presented as a dramatised biography. Its title refers to the Catalan poet Clementina Arderiu and places the story in the nearby coastal village of Cadaqués in 1959.
Other additions are more practical or social. The programme includes a bachata class, listed as "Batxata" in Catalan, a course titled "Intel·ligència artificial, un nou món" ("Artificial intelligence, a new world"), a make-up workshop and a board games activity.
The council stressed that these are only some of the new activities. The full list is available in the programme published on the town council's website.
Learning at any age
According to the council, the aim of the Agenda Formativa is to keep offering spaces for training, culture, leisure and meeting other people. The programme is meant to help residents continue learning, discover new things and develop skills.
The council also puts weight on the social side. It says that learning has no age limit and is often a good way to meet new people, share interests and enjoy the town. The local expression used in the announcement is "fer poble", which means building community and a sense of belonging in the municipality.

The new term suggests that the Agenda Formativa is trying to reach a wider audience than a traditional adult education programme. A workshop for parents of toddlers, a course on artificial intelligence and a bachata class appeal to very different groups. This fits a wider pattern in Castelló this autumn, with the return of the library book clubs and an intergenerational escape room also on the calendar.
For international residents in Empuriabrava, these courses could be a practical way to meet neighbours and take part in local life. Much of the programme is presented in Catalan, however, so it is worth checking the language of each activity before signing up.
It will be worth watching whether the new additions fill their places. Strong demand could help decide which activities stay in future editions of the programme.
