Limbik Co. opens Cau de la Bruixa food space in Llers
Limbik Co., the craft brewery run by Xavi Pujol, has opened a new venue in Llers. The space is called Cau de la Bruixa, which translates roughly as "the Witch's Den". It combines the company's craft beer with locally sourced food.
Limbik has become one of the best-known artisan breweries in the Empordà. The new venue opens a fresh chapter for the business. It moves the brand beyond bottles and into a place where customers can sit down, eat, drink and take part in activities.
Llers is a small village in the Alt Empordà, the northern county of the Costa Brava that also includes Empuriabrava and Castelló d'Empúries.
Beer, local produce and a cultural programme
Cau de la Bruixa is built around food and drink pairing. Limbik's beers are served alongside products from nearby producers. This approach has been gaining ground across the county, from farm shops to events such as the Lladó cheese fair.
The space is more than a bar or restaurant. It also has a cultural programme on Fridays and Saturdays. The schedule includes:
- musical vermouth sessions, a popular Catalan weekend tradition of a pre-lunch drink and snack, here with live music
- early evening gatherings, known locally as "vesprejos"
- workshops
- tastings
- food and beer pairings
These activities take place alongside the normal work of the brewery. Visitors share the space with the working production area, known in Catalan as the "obrador", where the beer is made.
Speaking to the weekly newspaper Hora Nova, Pujol described Cau de la Bruixa as "a space open to everyone" with a pleasant and fun atmosphere.
A new dark beer in homage to Carles Bros
Limbik is also developing new beers. The company says it is working on a dark beer that will be full of flavour and unlike the styles most drinkers already know.
The beer will be produced in three different maturation formats. Maturation is the stage in which beer rests and develops its flavour before it is served. Making one beer in three different ways is an unusual step for a small producer.
The new beer is planned as a tribute to Carles Bros. Its label will show one of his artworks.
Cherries, ginger beer and alcohol-free drinks
Limbik already has another new product on the market: a beer made with local cherries. It is a further example of the brewery's focus on ingredients grown close to home.
Pujol is also thinking about something quite different. He has in mind a ginger beer with no alcohol, which would be suitable for all ages.
This reflects a wider change in direction for the company. Limbik says it wants to offer alcohol-free products and soft drinks as well as beer. One example it mentions is Hop Water, a drink made with hops.
More information on the brewery and its products is available on the Limbik Co. website, limbik-co.com, and on its social media channels.
Our Take
For readers in Empuriabrava and Castelló d'Empúries, Cau de la Bruixa adds another stop to the Alt Empordà food and drink map. The Friday and Saturday programme could appeal to residents looking for something to do outside the summer season. It could also interest visitors who want to see how local craft beer is made.
The move fits a broader pattern in the county. Local producers are increasingly linking their products to experiences, not just sales. Wine events such as Beu-te el museu follow a similar idea. Craft beer also has a growing public, as shown by the Roses craft beer and music fair.
Limbik's interest in alcohol-free drinks is also worth noting. It suggests the brewery wants to reach families and people who do not drink alcohol. It will be worth watching whether the ginger beer and Hop Water reach the market, and when the new dark beer is released.
