Roses town council will not raise any municipal tax rates in 2027, continuing the freeze it has applied in recent years. The only change on the tax side is a new 15% discount on the plusvàlua for certain inherited homes.
The freeze covers all five municipal taxes. These are the IBI (the annual property tax), the vehicle circulation tax, the plusvàlua, the IAE (the business activity tax) and the ICIO (the tax on construction and building works). The plusvàlua is the municipal tax charged on the increase in land value when a property changes hands, including through an inheritance.
Figueres City Council is now accepting applications from traders who want a stall at this year's Christmas Market. The market will be held on the town's Rambla from 27 November to 24 December.
Anyone interested has until 2 November to submit an application.
The market is organised directly by the Ajuntament de Figueres, the town council. The council has published the participation rules and an application form, and both can be downloaded from its website.
Almost four weeks on the Rambla
The Rambla is the central promenade of Figueres, the capital of the Alt Empordà county. It is one of the town's main meeting points and a natural setting for a seasonal market.
The youth development squad of Club Trail Running Cap de Creus has finished the 2026 Copa Catalana de Curses per Muntanya with five athletes provisionally in the top three of the overall standings.
The Copa Catalana is the Catalan cup series for mountain running. Its final round took place this weekend in Alcanar, in southern Catalonia. The club's young runners came home with several podium finishes on the day, and their season totals now point to one title, one runner-up spot and three third places.
The final standings are still provisional. They are awaiting official confirmation from the FEEC, the Federació d'Entitats Excursionistes de Catalunya, the federation that governs mountain sports in Catalonia.
The annual seabed clean-up at Port de Roses has brought 280 kg of waste up from the water, according to the town of Roses. The haul ranged from plastics and fishing gear to items rarely found on the sea floor, including a toilet and a set of chairs.
The operation is held every year. It is part of the port's environmental work and also aims to raise awareness about marine litter among port users and local residents.
Where the work took place
This year the clean-up focused on the harbour mouth, in the stretch of water between the counter-pier of the Port Esportiu (the marina) and the Moll de Pescadors, the fishermen's quay. That stretch sees regular traffic from both leisure boats and the local fishing fleet.
